Experience the thrill of tracking endangered primates in two of East Africa’s most breathtaking destinations, Rwanda and Uganda.
This 4 day cross border adventure by Freundlich Safaris Uganda offers an intimate blend of wildlife encounters, scenic landscapes, and rich cultural experiences.
From trekking mountain gorillas deep in the misty jungles of Bwindi to meeting playful golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, this safari promises memories that last a lifetime.
Whether you’re a first time safari traveler or a seasoned adventurer, this trip combines comfort, expert guidance, and authentic discovery, all with Freundlich’s signature friendliness toward nature and all living creatures.
Your journey begins in Kigali, Rwanda, where our professional English speaking driver/guide will warmly welcome you upon arrival at Kigali International Airport.
After a short briefing, you’ll embark on a scenic 5-6 hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda.
As you drive through Rwanda’s rolling “thousand hills,” rural villages, and lush farmlands, you’ll cross into Uganda through the Cyanika or Katuna border post, a seamless process assisted by your guide.
The drive continues through stunning landscapes until you reach your lodge near the gorilla trekking sector of Bwindi.
Check in, relax with a warm meal, and listen to the soothing sounds of the rainforest. The anticipation of tomorrow’s gorilla trekking adventure sets the tone for the days ahead.
Accommodation: Near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.
You’ll be assigned to a gorilla family and set off into the dense, misty jungle, the heart of Africa’s last remaining mountain gorilla habitat.
The trek may take between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements.
When you finally encounter them, time seems to stand still. You’ll spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants, watching mothers care for their young, silverbacks beat their chests, and juveniles play in the vines.
It’s one of the most moving wildlife experiences on Earth.
After the trek, return to your lodge for a well deserved lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may opt for a community walk to meet the local Batwa pygmies, the forest’s original inhabitants, and learn about their traditional lifestyle, music, and dance.

Upon arrival in Musanze, settle into your comfortable lodge surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.
Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to immerse yourself in Rwandan culture through traditional music, storytelling, and dance or simply unwind and enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings.
Accommodation: Around Volcanoes national park

Start your final day with an early breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters for a golden monkey tracking experience.
These playful and endangered primates, known for their distinctive golden orange fur, are found only in the Virunga Mountains.
Accompanied by an expert guide, trek through the bamboo forests at the base of Mount Sabyinyo.
Once you find them, spend an hour watching their fascinating behavior jumping between branches, grooming each other, and foraging for food. Their energy and curiosity are contagious!
After the trek, return to the lodge to freshen up and check out.
Enjoy a scenic drive back to Kigali, with optional stops at the Kigali Genocide Memorial or local craft markets for cultural insight and souvenir shopping.
