Your safari adventure begins with a morning pick-up from Kampala by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, you’ll embark on a scenic drive towards southwestern Uganda. The journey offers captivating views of the countryside, dotted with plantations and roadside markets.
You will make a memorable stop at the Equator line in Kayabwe for photography and scientific experiments that demonstrate how the Earth’s hemispheres differ. Proceed to Mbarara for a lunch break at a local restaurant. Afterward, continue the drive through Kabale’s terraced hills and valleys until you reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Bakiga Lodge (Mid-range)
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a 7:00 AM pre-trekking briefing. You’ll be welcomed with traditional dance performances by local Bakiga women before receiving a safety orientation and being assigned to a specific gorilla family group.
The gorilla trek, led by a UWA ranger, can last between 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. The forest terrain can be steep and slippery, so hiring a local porter is highly recommended. Once you locate the gorilla group, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing their behavior, social interaction, and capturing incredible photographs.
Return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest and dinner.
